We are excited to announce that we are competing in A Community Thrives, a fundraising program sponsored by the USA TODAY NETWORK focused on helping organizations spotlight their community building initiatives. We are in the running to be awarded project-based grants to help fund our Detroit to the Diaspora: Ghana initiative and we need your support!
Inspired by Ghana's Year of Return which commemorates 400 years since the first slave ship arrived in the United States, the Heidelberg Arts Leadership Academy (HALA) has teamed up with community collective, The Great Sankofa, to raise funds that would provide an inaugural group of ten Detroit area youth with an all-expenses paid study abroad trip to Ghana.
HALA understands the significance of experiential global learning and it is with this mission we introduce Detroit to the Diaspora: Ghana, an annual, cultural immersion study abroad program to countries throughout the African Diaspora. Students will visit cultural heritage sites and meet with professionals, artisans, and entrepreneurs in the industries of business and innovation, agriculture, manufacturing, technology and arts culture. This hands on exposure will inform career pathway development, leadership skills, and an enhanced understanding of global economic cooperation that will be incorporated into their careers and the Detroit community.
We’re so excited to be apart of the Community Thrives Crowdfunding Challenge. Our donate button is now live and our goal is to raise the most money possible for our cause and win a portion of any grant prize donations.
Making a contribution will mean so much to us. No donation amount is too small. Please click the DONATE button to make it happen. Also, please be sure to utilize the share options after you donate to tell your network about The Heidelberg Project and why our mission to “build people and community through art” means so much to you. By tapping into your network, we know we can make an even bigger difference and expand Tyree’s vision that much more!
